Book of Glyph Mastery - What's the Deal?

Although I was only in the JMTC meeting for a short time last night, there was a bit of a debate on how exactly Books of Glyph Mastery really work....do they teach you old school recipies? Do they teach only "un-teachables"? Is unteachables even a word?

When leveling my scribe, I was popping the Book of Glyph Mastery like they were going outta style. Having not completed all of the "minor" dailies, and continuing to do the "Northrends", I got to the point of not knowing any more glyphs, where I had the popup in game saying "You cannot learn anything from using this" (or something similar).

Later on, when I started to do vendor "runs", I went to Hellfire Peninsula, and noticed that a vendor sells a recipe there...Glyph of Mana Shield, and even though I had never trained it there (or bought from the AH) I had already known it.

So basically where I am going, is that I had to have learned it somewhere, and I never thought twice until recently, when a fellow blogger was asking about leveling a scribe. I told him to hold onto the Books until he had learned all the dailies, and bought up the vendors, as I basically wasted gold using a book instead of hitting up the vendors...

To make a long story short, I am now questioning myself. After talking in the meeting about it, it seemed that the answer to this question was 50/50. I am stubborn in my belief that I know what happened. Looking at wowhead comments, I once again saw conflicting answers- One in particular with an absolute TON of information in it:

By mstieler (1·31) on 04/01/2010 (Patch 3.3.3)
447 total listings for Inscription
233 from Trainers, only 221 true "recipes" [2 researches, 4 masters inscriptions, 6 levels of inscription]
205 from
Discovery [66 Minor, 83 Northrend, 57 Glyph Mastery]
1
Drop
3 Vendor

Note: This is just the math of it; I have yet to see for myself in Books of Glyph Mastery will let you learn Glyphs other than those available only to Glyph Mastery if you haven't learned all the discovery ones.
At the very least, you can learn the 221 trainer, 3 vendor, 57 Mastery, 1 Drop, and 1 of each Research glyphs.

Edit: yes, it appears to be feasible that you can learn all the glyphs from Books of Glyph Mastery. On my Inscriptionist, I had 29 Books of Glyph Mastery to use, the day I hit Northrend Inscription, so I had only used Northrend Inscription Research once, and though I've used Minor Research multiple times, I haven't learned all the Minor Glyphs. After using my books, I had learned 3 NIR Glyphs (Lifebloom, Trueshot Aura, Holy Wrath), two of which were from the books, one from research, and a few minors, most notably Pestilence.

So what's the conclusion? Not really sure what to think. The book itself says that they only "Discover a Glyph Recipe that is unique to this Book". Blizz has been wrong before, was my situation "hotfixed"? Did blizz make an error?

To get to my point of this post, I am wondering what you guys have seen.....

It's still the same as it ever was. Each source provides unique glyphs. I have tested as recently as after the last patch. If you know all the glyphs from the books you still get the same "You cannot learn anymore from this book" error.

Don't believe comments. Believe trusted sites with accurate data, like wowhead, wowwiki, and el's professions.

One last point.

When they add new glyphs to the game they are available from one and only one of the sources of glyphs. So after a patch, you may have to do 1-2 more Northrend Research to learn the new additions in that list, a minor research to learn any new added minor glyphs, read a Book of Glyph Mastery to get any new glyphs added to that glyph list, or visit a trainer to learn new ones taught only by trainers.

Some patches you have to do 3 or 4 of the above just to learn all the new stuff.

That comment was taken from wowhead that I posted above, I prefer to read the comments as they have more information to piece the puzzle together...

I know from my experience that it happened for me, but that was quite some time ago, so things have probably changed, like we know they always do.

Thanks for the input!

After even further researching...

The only thing that has changed is this:

"With patch 3.1, new scribes should learn 3 recipes the very first time they perform Northrend Inscription Research."

That explains why he thought he had extra glyph recipes from just 1 day of Northrend Research.

Also pestilence isn't a minor glyph anymore.

I have used the addon Ackis Recipe List to know which glyphs i still have to learn.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/arl.aspx

there are three pools of glyps, which have certain glyphs
- minor research
- northend research
- Book of Glyph Mastery

try the addon ;-)

As someone just about to finish his scribbler's glyph learning in the next two days (damn Northrend Research)...

There are only so many glyphs you can learn from the BOGMs and then that's it. It does not teach you anything from dailies and anybody who tells you differently doesn't know what they're talking about. There is a point where the game will tell you that you can no longer learn anything from trying to use the BOGMs and the rest you need to burn your daily research cooldown.

Its easy to make a mistake since there are soooo many glyphs, but in the end the BOGMs are not a magic cure-all that apparently some people think they are.

This helps me out because I placed it on my snatch list. I find it about once a week selling for 10-$25 gold. I just buy it and relist for around 145 gold and it sells before the day is up...wish I could find more of them but hey...it is a cool little snatch list item.

BOGM sells for anything above 700g on my server. There are a few that will buyout the low BO's and repost above 1k for the book. So mainly, as is the case on my server, the book is above 1k per.

Hello. Do you know any limits of Book of Glyph Mastery? I think something like Northrend Inscription Reserach where is a 19 hour and some minute later you can learn an another glyph recipe.
