Stockpiling for 4.0.6 - And Beyond..

FYI- I just added a "review" box to the left so you can leave a quick comment or review if you are a follower. I appreciate it if you decide to, sometimes people just don't have time to leave a full comment, so this is a great addition! Thanks again for reading!

Hey folks. I had to change a few things on your original post for today after reading Syntalatings' post over at Auction House Raids (great post, great site. If you haven't visited there, go check it out!). They are basically doing an experiment on cornering the whole Cata enchant market to "level" out the prices to a more mat friendly base. Keep posted on their site, you can bookmark yourself or keep tabs on my blogroll at the side of the page. It will be extrememly interesting to see how that works out! Capped by Cata just hit on another style of Stockpiling recently, if you haven't read that article, head on over!

I want to hit on one more thing before getting rolling on this topic.  I want to take a moment to thank all my followers and my comment'ers. I try to give you information that you can use, and being a blogger, I spend quite a bit of time on my posts, and like to see that if you take the time to read my post, please toss a comment below, as that is my main goal of every post, to make you think. And remember, there are folks out there that probably can use that information, and if you keep it to yourself, you won't be able to help them...make sense? I hope so.

As of late, I have been *Editing my posts with additional information I see in the comments, and I give credit to the author. So please try to not post as Anonymous as I want to give credit where credit is due (we had an issue yesterday with me responding to one anonymous when there were two of them. sorry!). So when you do leave a comment, or even if you just read the article, check back every now and then because the original post changes. Deal? Or No Deal? (bad reference there, I got bored of that show when it came out on a slot machine, and I lost a few hundo to it...instant blacklist...haaha). Ok, enough mumbo jumbo, get to the topic already!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now you know that I have been buying up Pyrite Ore for quite some time (under 200 a stack), and currently have three bank tabs. I am on hold right now, as I have an easy 50K easy wrapped up, and I feel that is sufficient. 4.0.6? Nah, these are being saved for later use, if/when Blizz releases epics out of prospecting. Will it happen? Yeah, I believe so. Soon? Who knows. I don't. But my guess is that it will happen, and when we least expect it.....

You have heard me talk about stocking up on Shadowspirit Diamonds. Yup. I got a few, actually about 50K in them as well. These will be a big hitter for me come 4.0.6 drop. If you are a chanter, are you saving up? I only really recommend this if you are willing to pay an exorbitant price for the new formula's, as they will hit the AH, and I feel that 10-15K will be a starting price for these. If you haven't been paying too much attention, here's the new ones coming:

Agile Shadowspirit Diamond (Agility/3% critical damage)
Reverberating Shadowspirit Diamond (Strength/3% critical damage)
Burning Shadowspirit Diamond (Intellect/3% critical damage)

Now these new recipes are unbound and can drop from any Cataclysm creature. We do not know the droprate, but I am guessing they will be pretty rare. Also, the new meta gems have a requirement of 3 red gems equipped, so stock up on the Inferno Ruby gems as well, as I see their sales to be consistent, and raise a bit in price when the patch hits

You can see that this tab is my overrun of gems, and I have been cutting and selling quite a few "reds" already (thus the small stock of Infernos), and for the "flip" with them, it's hard to pass up 300g on the cuts, as I feel that is near the top of the price for these, even after 4.0.6. As of yesterday, I finially have competition on the two cuts that I owned the market on, so I will let them bleed the market a bit so I can get about 100 in stock (should be a day or two, as I just picked up a Elementium Ore farmer- so my blue gem stock will raise a bit).

Glyphs. Now I am not going to go too far indepth on this one, as I am not focusing on stockpiling them, as I have a revolving stock, and I try to keep quite a bit of herb/ink available, at times, even farming my own. Don't get me wrong, I love the AH, and cost/GPH is normally against this, but it is relaxing to go out and farm for an hour or so every once in a while, especially in Sholozar Basin, as I have zero competition with herbing there.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now there are some out there that are Stockpiling Volatile Life. Not that I am against this, but I feel the prices are not going to move signifigantly enough to take up the space in my bank for this. I am not saying to stay away from them, as I do buy them up when I see them less than 5g each, but I only have a few stacks in the bank of these. I make quite a few of Notched Jawbone, Silver Inlaid Leaf, and Tattooed Eyeball (which are fairly consistent sellers), and once in a great while, Darkmoon Card of Destruction, so my stock is always cruising around, but never enough to consider it a "stockpile".

Is there something that you are stocking up on?
Why are you doing it?
How long are you willing to keep them?
If you are, how much is too much (quantity and/or price)?
How long are you willing to wait before enough is enough, and you just sell off?

Talking about Volatile Life, I managed to buy ~1000 of them at less than 3g each. I wasn't planning to stockpile those, but with such a price I couldn't avoid doing so.
Prices have already raised to 7g each, so I've started to slowly sell them... If would be good having my money back *and* the remaining Volatile Lifes.
I love the fact that they stack at 200, otherwise it would be really difficult to work with those numbers -.- I don't have a lot of space.

I struggle to make my self stockpile anything in these sorts of volumes! I see a good deal today, snap it up then the prices go up nicely tomorrow & I just have to sell a few (and a few more, maybe)! Deep down, I know they will fetch more later but it seems I just can't let today's profit go while waiting for tomorrow!

That said, I do have some pyrite ore & ocean sapphires building up. As you said, the inferno rubies are selling too well now to not sell but I have excess carnelians for later transmutes if need be.

Thanks for the link love alto! and I have been stockpiling Shadow Spirits as well, I don't have quite as much invested as you, but still for 4.06 I think it will be a worthwhile investment. sadly Pyrite ore has been too expensive on my server to do much stockpiling but I have been keeping a close eye on it.

@ Kreaton,
Smart move, you have basically already doubled your money, I haven't seen them even hit the 5g for quite some time...ugh...

@ Nev,
Believe me, it's tough sometimes, but I still continue to sell a bit of everything on a daily basis, and have a post coming on that soon. But I feel you, it gets hard seeing 10 or 20K in sales go right back into an investment 5 minutes later...

@ Syntalating,
Not a problem! The problem I have (with stockpiling-and why I have to) is I am on a very heavy AH server...tons of competition (so I try to be a step ahead). Some servers have top raiders, the best pvp, mine is strictly AH pros. Too bad I am an amateur...

I've got ~100 metas stocked. My side of the server is small. I've also got half a tab of Pyrite. I'm convinced that epics won't be here until new raiding content comes, and I don't think that will happen for a few months, so I'm in no rush.

I'm still at the point where I run my normal business. I don't stockpile more than a month out. Looking back, Winter Veil was a huge bust. I sold maybe 25 sets of Winter Clothes, and the Small Egg & Deeprock Salt market got trashed within a few days.

Stockpiling is one of those things that would be fun to do when I "retire" from gold-making, and start focusing more on flipping than crafting.

Good points Stede!

I don't stock up for any of the WoW holidays anymore either, but they are sometimes a viable flip, I just haven't had luck with them.

You said you don't stockpile more than a month out, how do you decide that?

Off topic, great post over at JMTC, I enjoyed reading it, as it covered all aspects and options of jewelcrafting. I haven't seen a post in a few days from you, are you working of something big?

Hi, I'm stockpiling a few volatile life, a few uncut metas, and some spare red gems. I'm very wary of stockpiling pyrite because I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzard pulled something like the epic gems in TBC. Now, I did start stockpiling pyrite until it suddenly hit me.. what if they don't come from pyrite. I wish someone would let us know in advance!

I've got a lot of metas saved up, though, made from the cataclysm obsidium shuffle. I do hope that the rest of my server isn't doing exactly the same thing, waiting to flood the AH with metas!

I've been picking up Volatile Life when I see it for 5g or less since it goes for 10-12 on my server atm. So even if it doesn't go up I'm pretty happy with snagging these. I'd been thinking about Pyrite Ore for a few weeks, but kept forgetting to actually check when in game. =P Gonna do so when I log on today, so thanks for the reminder on that. =D

I only have a few metas stockpiled. I've been having trouble getting enough ore to keep my chanting mats stockpiled, so I haven't had any extra to transmute as those are less of a profit. I have a feeling that a ton of people on my server are saving them up, so I've decided to not really do so unless I come into a ton of ore before the patch.

I stockpile ink, though I go through a ton of it too keeping glyphs stocked. I have about 300 in the bank and am slowly adding to it over time.

@ The Gold Queen,
The good thing about Pyrite is that if the epics don't come, I will still have quite a stock for prospecting, and I will still have a great profit ratio, but three tabs is enough. I hope...and thanks. =)

@ Tyrandir,
That's good to hear! My transmutes are basically 1:1 on profits versus gems or D/E, and they are quicker sales, but I still go all around with my stockpiles. As soon as I get done with the flip/flop, I have a new set of COD's waiting, and I don't want to be too heavy in any area, for the "just in case" factor.

Remember to continue to stock up on the inks, and to get to the Inscription Trainer once 4.0.6 drops, as there is a new glyph, not sure if it will be replacing or added. FYI.
