Milling Herbs on the rise- Blackfallow Ink/Inferno Ink Galore! Huge Profits!

I had a very long weekend with family, and have neglected the blog since (and WoW for that matter). My daughter is sick, so of course she has passed it onto daddy as well. =( I am not sure whats worse, having her (14 months old) with a runny nose, getting snot on everything, or me doing the same...time to buy stock in Kleenex.

Ok, enough about me, this is a WoW blog, right?

What made me decide to focus todays post? Ore is down to basically half of what it was last week (Elementium going for 120g a stack, and there is a TON on the AH. The price of gems (greens are going in the 10-15g range, and blues are sitting around 20-30g) prospected does not even cover the initial cost of the ore, and if you are lucky and proc two blues, that is the only way of making profit off them...at least it was good while it lasted- but yes, I have bought quite a few stacks right now, as I believe this price to be baseline, and not drop much lower).

Herbs are here, and in a big way. Whether the are in the AH solo, or milled to make Blackfallow Ink or Inferno Inks, here is the money game at the moment. The higher end herbs (Twilight Jasmine, Whiptail, Heartblossom) are still 150-250 a stack (so great for farming right now) and the lessers (Cinderbloom, Azshara's Veil, and Stormvine) are what I am focusing on for milling, as they are sitting around 80-100g per stack.

Here is an example on milling Cinderbloom (this is the average of 200 herbs milled- 10 stacks):

Total Cost (AH) 800g (80 per stack)
96 Ashen Pigment
27 Burning Ember

AH profit:
48 Blackfallow Ink= 837g (15.5g @ 48)
13 Inferno Ink= 1885g (145g @ 13)

Total profit: 1829g before AH fees (pending sold price)

Now, of course, this is server dependent and I was lucky on procs with the Burning Ember, as I got a handful of 3's (if you mill, thats a goldmine!). However you are seeing where I am going with this. With a little bit of basic math, you can see that profits are huge on milling at the moment, and will carry until the prices of ink drop. Supply and Demand. The story of making gold on the AH. As you can see, even upon purchasing the higher end herbs in the AH, you can still clear 800ish gold per ten stack. If you are not able to purchase in multiple stack amounts, you can always start small (even with one stack) and still see profits from milling.

Hit your AH now, check the prices on the Inks, and see how your server stands up. Then rake in the bucks. =)

I know I made an entire post or three about falling ore prices, but Obsidium & Elementium were sitting at 185g / stack for me last night. Go figure.

Great tip, though, man - time for me to quit crying and level my scribe.

Now is a great time to level scribes, as the herbs in AH are low, but check the prices, as in an hour you should hit 20ish stacks in any given area (except cata). So if the herbs are a little high in the AH, figure your time versus money costs. Farming right now in Cata, if you have an herbie/miner, clearing 2K an hour isn't a stretch. Hope this helps brother. =)

I'm earning my investment back with the blackfallow and using the inferno ink as profit. It will turn out to be one inferno ink every 2 stacks or so which are going for 300g each. Amazing profits Anyway.

@ Shamaenei:

Good to hear! Profits are sick on these, and have been for quite some time now, since I don't see too much movement thus far on prices, this will be a very reliable "fundraiser" for my banker.

Just a heads up, don't forget about Obsidium Ore for prospecting too. I've been making money hand over fist just prospecting and selling the raw gems (except carnelian. usually Spikes + DE those). This could be particular to my server since OO is usually around 80g and the greens are selling for around 20g+ but definitely don't forget about Obsidium Ore!

The obsidium doesn't drop as many blues correct? Those are an extra 40-120g per, with some double hits here and there. I like the idea with the d/e'ing, but there is so much dust on the AH I will have to check on the S&D. Nice to see your comments Vince. Keep em coming, it sounds like you know what you are doin!

I'd like to point out that the actual statistical averages on the stacks are 5 blackfallow and .5 inferno inks per stack of T1 herbs (Azshara's, cinderbloom, stormvine, heartblossom) and 6 blackfallow and 1 inferno per stack of T2 (Whiptail and Twilight jasmine). That makes the effective value of T2 herbs 1.6x that of T1. Remember to take that into consideration when looking up herbs to buy, as I can usually save a lot by buying up Whiptail instead of Cinderbloom, despite cinderbloom being cheaper.

Good point. I have been noticing that the "t2" herbs are proccing the triples alot more, and with twilight, I am almost averaging 4 per stack (so 2 inferno's). Thanks for the update Jolt!

Blackfallow inks do not seem to sell on my server. I only tried like once or twice so might have to try again. I tried selling full stack...

@ Sir,

You have the idea, you want to post in 5, 10, and 20 increments, with shaving a few gold off per series (5 for 100, 10 for 195, 20 for 380, or something to that affect) it seems to work for me. The "lazy" scribes are the ones that look to the AH, and dont want to spend a few minutes to mill and create them. Use that to your advantage. You also might want to check to see who is crafting alot of Fortune Cards and hit them up for a quick sale (offer to sell for a discount from the current AH rate). If you are getting alot of the inks, that could be a great gold relationship. A few more ideas for you to try. Good luck Sir!
